Pore Space Topology Controls Ultrasonic Waveforms in Dry Volcanic Rocks

چکیده

Pore space controls the mechanical and transport properties of rocks. At laboratory scale, seismic modeling is usually performed in relatively homogeneous settings, influence pore on recorded wavefields determined by rock-fluid interactions. Understanding this dry rocks instrumental for assessing impact topology waves propagating heterogeneous environments, such as volcanoes. Here, we simulated propagation shear a function parameters computational models built proxies volcanic The spectral-element simulations provide results comparable with ultrasonic experiments, outcome shows that size, shape, volume, location pores amplitudes phases. These variations intensify waveform coda after multiple scattering. Our confirm one primary regulators elastic regardless porosity.

Ultrasonic velocity measurements in volcanic rocks: correlation with microtexture

This paper summarizes results of a study of porosity, permeability, microstructure and acoustic properties of volcanic and pyroclastic rocks fromCampi Flegrei (CF) andMt. Etna (ET), Italy. We have measured the hydraulic, transport and acoustics properties of 28 room-dry samples at ambient conditions, 25 room-dry samples under confining pressure (up to 60 MPa) and 5 brine saturated samples under...

Pore-Scale Modeling of Pore Structure Effects on P-Wave Scattering Attenuation in Dry Rocks

Underground rocks usually have complex pore system with a variety of pore types and a wide range of pore size. The effects of pore structure on elastic wave attenuation cannot be neglected. We investigated the pore structure effects on P-wave scattering attenuation in dry rocks by pore-scale modeling based on the wave theory and the similarity principle. Our modeling results indicate that pore ...

Generalized Titanomagnetite in Hawaiian Volcanic Rocks'

A ferromagnetic oxide mineral with spinel structure was separated from Hawaiian volcanic rocks ranging from basalt to trachyte . The chemical compositions of all the specimens have been arranged on an oxygen reaction line, and can safely be interpreted as the result of a process of either oxidation or reduction of material with composition on or near this line. In the trachyte the mineral was f...

Joint entropy of continuously differentiable ultrasonic waveforms.

This study is based on an extension of the concept of joint entropy of two random variables to continuous functions, such as backscattered ultrasound. For two continuous random variables, X and Y, the joint probability density p(x,y) is ordinarily a continuous function of x and y that takes on values in a two dimensional region of the real plane. However, in the case where X=f(t) and Y=g(t) are...
